GoHighLevel vs HubSpot for a service business: cost and fit

A two-year cost comparison of GoHighLevel and HubSpot for a five-person service business, plus the feature gaps, SMS rules and data hosting that matter.

4 min read

For a five-person service business, GoHighLevel usually costs less over two years: roughly US$2,000 to US$2,500 in subscription fees plus usage charges for texts and calls, against roughly US$840 to US$2,400 for HubSpot's basic Starter plan and US$12,000 or more for HubSpot Sales Hub Professional, which is where HubSpot's automation really starts. GoHighLevel fits businesses that live on texts, calls, bookings and reviews and want one tool for all of it. HubSpot fits businesses with longer sales cycles, more people in sales and marketing, and a need for polished reporting. The cheaper tool is only cheaper if your team actually uses it, so fit matters more than the price gap.

One disclosure before the numbers: PNE builds its CRM and automation work on GoHighLevel. We've tried to keep this comparison fair, and there are cases below where HubSpot is the better choice.

The two tools in one paragraph each

GoHighLevel (often called GHL or HighLevel) is an all-in-one platform built originally for marketing agencies. It combines a CRM and pipelines with two-way SMS and calling, email, calendars and booking, forms, website and funnel builders, review requests and AI chat and voice tools. Many businesses access it through an agency that sets it up and resells it.

HubSpot is a CRM platform sold in "hubs" (Sales, Marketing, Service and others) that you can buy separately or together. It starts with a free CRM and scales to enterprise. It's known for a clean interface, strong reporting and a large ecosystem of integrations and training.

Prices below are from each vendor's pricing page in October 2026, in US dollars. HubSpot frequently runs introductory discounts, so check the current offer.

A team sending 1,000 text segments and making a few hundred minutes of calls a month adds well under US$50 a month in usage, before carrier fees. A realistic two-year total without the AI add-on is about US$2,200 to US$3,000.

The Unlimited plan (US$297/month) mostly adds more sub-accounts and agency features; a single business rarely needs it.

HubSpot Starter is competitive on price. The gap opens when you need what Professional adds, and when you need texting.

Where each one is stronger

GoHighLevel is stronger for

  • Texting and calls. Two-way SMS and calling are built in, with conversations from text, email, Facebook and web chat in one inbox. For trades, clinics and other local services where customers prefer to text, this matters a lot.
  • Booking. Calendars with reminders, connected to the pipeline.
  • Reviews. Automated review requests after a job.
  • Everything in one bill. Website, forms, funnels, CRM, messaging and AI tools in a single account with unlimited users.
  • Cost as the team grows. Adding a sixth or tenth user costs nothing.

HubSpot is stronger for

  • Ease of use. The interface is cleaner and new staff pick it up faster.
  • Reporting. Dashboards and sales reports are more polished, especially at Professional level.
  • Integrations and training. A very large app marketplace and free courses.
  • Longer sales cycles and larger teams, where sequences, forecasting and permissions matter more than texting.
  • Data hosting choice. HubSpot hosts accounts in several regions, including a data centre in Montréal, Canada, and one in Germany for the EU.

Gaps to know about

  • HubSpot SMS requires Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise, and sending numbers must be US-based (they can reach Canadian recipients). For a text-heavy business, that's a significant cost jump.
  • GoHighLevel hosts its infrastructure in the United States. For Quebec businesses, Law 25 requires a privacy impact assessment before personal information is communicated outside Quebec; this applies to most cloud CRMs, but it's a point in HubSpot's favour if you choose its Canadian hosting.
  • GoHighLevel has a steeper set-up curve. It does a lot, and an account configured carelessly becomes messy fast. Most businesses either invest real time learning it or have it set up for them.
  • French. HubSpot lists French for its CRM and main hubs, noting some features may not be fully translated. GoHighLevel offers French (Canada) and French (France) as platform languages; test the screens your team uses daily before committing.

Which one to choose

Choose GoHighLevel if:

  • most customer conversations happen by phone and text;
  • you want booking, reminders, reviews and follow-up automation in one place;
  • you have, or will hire, someone to set it up properly;
  • your budget is tight and the team may grow.

Choose HubSpot if:

  • you sell to businesses with longer sales cycles and several decision-makers;
  • your team values ease of use and reporting over texting;
  • you want Canadian or EU data hosting;
  • you can budget for Professional when you need its automation.

Stay with HubSpot's free CRM if you're two people, mostly using email, and simply need to stop losing track of leads.

Before you migrate

  1. List the five things you need the CRM to do every day.
  2. Map your pipeline stages on paper first.
  3. Count your texts, calls and emails per month to estimate usage costs.
  4. Check where data will be hosted and update your privacy policy.
  5. Run a two-week trial with real leads, not demo data.
